Hail the Goddess (Banjo)

I pretty much finished the Weeping Goddess electric banjo today... well, the electric part doesn't work yet - I think something's wrong with the jack. But that's a project for another day.

Tuning is cFCf. Action is high but workable - great with a slide. Good solid sound.

Sound sample to follow when I get the electronics fixed.

I hope to debut this banjo in Hinton WV, Next Saturday, July 16 (check show calendar). Maybe I'll see you there.

Update:

Got the electronics working. Now the banjo has "character" because the pickup works much better on the first an third strings (which are right over the poles) than on the second and fourth.

Also added this banjo to an existing tune - Here's a podcast with the banjo sample and the tune it's on:

Episode 3 - Weeping Goddess debut (Podcast) (Click here to get ipodder software)
Episode 3 - Weeping Goddess debut (MP3)

BTW, for you sticklers for accuracy, I tuned the Weeping Goddess down to a#-D#-A#-d# to match the picth of the existing vocal track.

Doc, I like the sound of this banjo. The lyrics of the song were both sad and funny at the same time. I just can't resist handmade instruments, particularly strings and percussion. Keep building and playing, blues dude!
